Celtics reportedly not getting desired return for Jaylen Brown

It’s safe to say the trade market for Celtics star Jaylen Brown isn’t exactly robust at the moment.

Per Sam Amick of The Athletic, Boston is finding little traction in negotiations centered on Brown and may even have to lower its asking price.

“As you’ve no doubt heard by now, they’ve been asking for up to four first-round picks (in addition to players) for a team to land the 29-year-old forward,” Amick wrote. “We knew this during the Giannis Antetokounmpo negotiations but it remains true in the wake of Boston getting beat out by Miami in those sweepstakes.”

Brown has been linked to the Hawks, Pistons, Trail Blazers and several others, though by all accounts, the Celtics’ conversations remain fluid. So there is no clear favorite, it seems.

There’s also the idea that Boston may keep Brown. But that’s starting to look like a hairy concept, given that he might not want to play there after all the rumors.

For the record, Amick listed the Blazers, Nuggets and Nets as possibilities. But the Celtics, again, might not be able to get back the return they’re seeking. Therefore, others could be lowering their offers.

All we know, frankly, is that we don’t really know. Such is life in NBA free agency.

“All in all, this makes many wonder where the Celtics go from here,” Amick wrote. “If they don’t move Brown, there will be some serious relationship rehabilitation to be done between the two sides with how this summer has unfolded.”
