Charles Barkley says he’d pick Jalen Rose as his ‘Inside the NBA’ successor

Charles Barkley has a replacement in mind if he really does leave Inside the NBA. It’s Jalen Rose.

Barkley was asked on Westwood One Sports’ BetMGM Gameday Live whether Warriors forward Draymond Green could take his place. He didn’t dismiss Green. He just preferred someone else.

“I think Draymond would do a good job,” Barkley said. “Jalen Rose to me would be the perfect guy because he’s done the most with us.”

Barkley also praised Vince Carter, who, like Rose and Green, has appeared on the show as a guest analyst. Rose has filled in often enough to know the rhythms of Barkley, Ernie Johnson, Kenny Smith and Shaquille O’Neal. That’s no small thing. Plenty of people can discuss basketball. Fitting into that conversation is another skill.

Of course, this assumes Barkley actually leaves. He has said this will be his final season, tying his plans to Johnson’s potential departure. Johnson has not announced his retirement, and Barkley has changed his own timetable before.

Green recently made a point of saying nobody could truly replace Barkley. He’s right. Rose wouldn’t have to become another Chuck. Barkley seems to think he’d be pretty good as Jalen.
