Giannis Antetokounmpo has long dominated the paint, but the Bucks star is adding a new wrinkle to his offensive arsenal — the mid-range jumper. While his 3-point attempts have plummeted this season (just 8-of-42 from deep), Antetokounmpo’s increased confidence in the mid-range is paying off in a big way.
According to The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Giannis ranks seventh among NBA players averaging at least 2.5 mid-range attempts per game, connecting on 46.8% of those looks. That efficiency puts him ahead of stars like DeMar DeRozan, Kawhi Leonard, and Jalen Brunson — all players known for their mid-range prowess.
“We are seeing a lot of growth in his game,” Bucks forward Taurean Prince said. “It’s crazy to say but he’s getting better. Every day he’s adding on… him adding that to his game makes him more deadly.”
The two-time MVP isn’t sacrificing overall efficiency, either. Antetokounmpo is averaging 30.8 points per game on a blistering 60.4% from the field — right in line with last season when he became the first player in NBA history to average 30 points on at least 60% shooting.
With defenses forced to respect his jumper, Milwaukee’s franchise player has become even tougher to guard as they push toward another deep playoff run. His continued evolution shows that even at 29 years old, Antetokounmpo’s game is still reaching new heights.
The Bucks (35-25) currently sit in a tie with the Indiana Pacers for fourth place in the Eastern Conference.
