Hawks’ Skylar Mays Picks Up Qualifying Offer

Hawks shooting guard Skylar Mays has signed his qualifying offer and will return to the Hawks, according to Chris Kirchner of The Athletic.Skylar Mays

Mays, 23, is 6-foot-4 and spent his rookie season on a two-way deal. His qualifying offer comes with a $50,000 partial guarantee.

He appeared in 50 games with Atlanta last season, averaging 3.8 points on 45 percent shooting, including 35 percent on 3-pointers. He was originally drafted with the No. 50 pick out of LSU in 2020.

“Atlanta signed 2021 second-round pick Sharife Cooper to a two-way contract earlier this month, but the team’s other two-way slot had been open, so Mays will fill it, at least for the time being,” explained Luke Adams of Hoops Rumors. “Given that his new deal only includes a small guarantee of $50K, the Hawks aren’t necessarily locked into Mays for the coming season, but he has an inside track to a spot on the 17-man regular season roster for now.”

The Hawks’ roster now stands at 14 players on guaranteed deals, with both two-way slots filled and two more players on Exhibit 10 contracts. NBA teams can carry up to 20 players in training camp.
