Jazz rookie Darryn Peterson had car stolen during pre-draft process

Darryn Peterson made plenty of headlines during the NBA pre-draft process.

Apparently, he lost a car along the way, too.

Peterson, the No. 2 overall pick of the Jazz, revealed during an interview with ESPN’s Chiney Ogwumike that his vehicle was stolen from the driveway of an Airbnb where he was staying before the draft.

“Crazy story: my whip, during the pre-draft, got [stolen] out of the driveway at the Airbnb I was staying at,” Peterson said. “After it got took, I was like, ‘I’m about to just get something else.’”

So he did. Peterson said he used some of his newfound NBA money on a custom matte black Range Rover. He also learned something from the experience: The new one stays in the garage.

Peterson should already be a familiar name to plenty of basketball fans in Northeast Ohio. He played his freshman and sophomore seasons at Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy before eventually finishing his high school career elsewhere and spending one season at Kansas.

Utah selected him immediately after the Wizards took AJ Dybantsa with the first overall pick.

So far, Peterson has looked the part. He averaged 23 points, 5.2 assists and 3.2 rebounds in five summer league appearances after erupting for 28 points in his debut.

The Jazz are counting on Peterson to become one of the faces of their rebuild. He’s already got the new car. This time, he’s keeping it inside.
