Kendrick Perkins: Cavs are ‘set up perfectly’ for LeBron James return

Former Cavaliers center Kendrick Perkins believes a third stint in Cleveland would be the ideal way for LeBron James to close out his NBA career.

Appearing on Scoop B Radio with Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson, Perkins said the Cavaliers remain an ideal fit as James continues weighing his free-agent options.

“He should,” Perkins said when asked if James should return to Cleveland. “I mean, why not? It’s set up perfectly. They want you there and it’s set up perfectly so that you can end it where it all started at. Why not?”

Yes, James is still a free agent three weeks after informing the Lakers he won’t return. The Cavs, of course, continue to be viewed as one of the teams in the mix, along with the 76ers, Warriors and Heat.

Perkins also dismissed the notion that James, entering his 24th NBA season, is slowing down.

“A 41-year-old is not supposed to be doing this,” Perkins told Robinson. “A 41-year-old is not still supposed to be the best basketball player in the series.”

The former NBA champion added that James’ greatest strength has always been making everyone around him better.

“I’m convinced that he can go out there and win one with anybody,” Perkins said.

Agent Rich Paul has indicated James could play up to two more seasons, though he has repeatedly stressed there is no timetable for announcing a decision.
