LeBron James spoke publicly for the first time since entering 2026 free agency. He left no real clues.
But league sources continue to tell Hoops Wire that they believe the focus remains on the Cavaliers, Heat and 76ers as James’ most likely destinations. They also aren’t expecting him to announce a decision this week.
Now, to be clear, those who spoke to Hoops Wire acknowledged they haven’t talked directly with James or agent Rich Paul. They’re just going on hunches — much like the rest of us.

James certainly had opportunities Thursday to end the suspense.
During a live recording of Mind the Game at Fanatics Fest, Tyrese Haliburton twice playfully tried to get James to reveal his plans. James smiled, deflected and kept the conversation moving.
He also thanked the Lakers for “eight great years,” joked with the crowd about hearing rumors involving the Warriors and 76ers, and was asked to name the favorite team of his career. Rather than offer any sort of hint, James mentioned the Heat championship teams, the Cavs’ 2016 title team, the Lakers’ 2020 champions and even the 2008 U.S. Olympic “Redeem Team.”
In other words, he gave everyone plenty to talk about without actually saying much at all.
James isn’t done with Fanatics Fest, either.
He is scheduled to appear again Friday during a live taping of The Shop, alongside business partner Maverick Carter, new hosts Steelo Brim and Travis Bennett, tennis star Novak Djokovic and U.S. soccer standout Folarin Balogun.
Will that be the moment James finally reveals where he’ll play next? Maybe.
Then again, after everything we’ve seen over the past two weeks, it probably isn’t worth pretending anyone knows.
