An NBA source has told Hoops Wire that Kevin Durant could request a trade from the Phoenix Suns in the offseason.
Durant is not happy the Suns took trade calls on him and almost traded him to the Golden State Warriors.
When Durant found out that Phoenix had a deal in place to send him back to Golden State, he made it known behind the scenes he didn’t want to play for the Warriors again.
The Miami Heat, Memphis Grizzlies and Minnesota Timberwolves attempted to trade for Durant. KD didn’t want to play for the Grizzlies and the Suns were not impressed with what the Heat and Timberwolves had to offer them for the NBA legend.
Durant is averaging 26.9 points, 6.1 rebounds and 4.2 assists this season while shooting 52.4% from the field, 39.8% from beyond the arc and 82.7% from the free-throw line. The NBA icon is making $51.2 million.
Durant has played for the Oklahoma City Thunder, Warriors, Brooklyn Nets and Suns. He has career averages of 27.2 points, 7.0 rebounds and 4.4 assists.
A four-time scoring champion, Durant is sixth in NBA history in points per game.
On his latest podcast, NBA insider Brian Windhorst spoke about Durant’s future with the Suns.
“The prevailing thing from the trade deadline was what didn’t happen, which was Kevin Durant stayed put,” Windhorst said. “He was not happy he was put into trade talks. I think it’s unpredictable what will happen for the next few months because it’s the nature of the sport, but I think right now, it is reasonable to forecast that Durant will be breaking up with the Suns in the summer. He didn’t break up with them today, but it doesn’t look for the long-term forecast because he was really frustrated.
“I spent a long time today on the phone with people involved with this situation. People from Miami, people from Golden State, people from Phoenix, other people. I would just say that the biggest thing Kevin Durant was upset about I think is not knowing he was involved in trade talks.”
