Kings expected to move on from DeMar DeRozan

The Kings are looking to shake things up, including moving some veterans. Or at least one.

According to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, Sacramento is expected to waive and stretch veteran forward DeMar DeRozan if it can’t find a trade partner.

DeRozan is entering the final season of his contract and is owed $25.7 million in 2026-27, though only $10 million of that salary remains guaranteed through Jan. 10. That gives the Kings flexibility as they look for ways to reshape a roster that finished 22-60 and missed the playoffs.

In other words, Sacramento seems determined to keep shaking things up.

DeRozan turns 37 in August, but he remains one of the league’s most reliable scorers and durable veterans. He appeared in 77 games this past season, averaging 18.4 points, 4.1 assists and 2.9 rebounds.

The Kings acquired DeRozan in a three-team trade with the Bulls during the summer of 2024, hoping he could help elevate the franchise into playoff contention. Instead, Sacramento struggled through another disappointing season and now appears headed toward further roster changes.

According to Scotto, the Clippers are expected to have interest if DeRozan reaches free agency.

Meanwhile, Sacramento is also believed to be exploring other avenues to reduce salary and reshape the roster. Zach LaVine is expected to exercise his $49 million player option for next season, and reports have linked the Kings to trade discussions involving center Domantas Sabonis.
