Jalen Brunson will enter Knicks training camp without restrictions.
The reigning NBA Finals MVP announced Thursday during a live edition of the Roommates Show podcast that he has been “fully cleared” following surgery on his left wrist in July.
That was always the expected outcome. Initial reporting indicated that Brunson’s availability for the regular-season opener was never in serious jeopardy, and his recovery apparently stayed on schedule.
Brunson played through the wrist injury during New York’s championship run. The issue was later described as tendon-related, though it hardly prevented him from delivering when the Knicks needed him most.
The 30-year-old averaged 26.0 points, 6.8 assists and 3.3 rebounds in 74 regular-season appearances. He raised his scoring average to 28.4 points during the playoffs as New York went 16-3 and won its first NBA championship since 1973.
Brunson finished the job with 45 points in the title-clinching Game 5 and was named Finals MVP.
The Knicks will enter camp with questions surrounding Karl-Anthony Towns’ contract and several potential rotation decisions. They won’t have to spend it wondering about the health of their point guard.
