Knicks, Jazz have talked Jordan Clarkson trade

The New York Knicks and Utah Jazz have discussed a trade involving New York guard Quentin Grimes, Utah guard Jordan Clarkson and Utah forward Kelly Olynyk, per Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.Jordan Clarkson

The Knicks have won 14 of 16 since the trade for forward OG Anunoby and are riding an eight-game winning streak into February. They very well could stand pat, but may want to add some scoring punch off the bench.

Grimes has been available for some time. Same goes for Olynyk.

“Olynyk has drawn interest from various teams across the league, sources say, and is considered Utah’s top trade candidate ahead of the deadline by rival executives as he prepares to enter unrestricted free agency in the summer,” Scotto wrote.

Meanwhile, Clarkson is also said to be drawing interest from multiple teams.

“Whatever team can get Clarkson will be a game changer,” an NBA scout told Scotto. “I think he’s the best of the volume scorers available on the trade market.”

Clarkson is averaging 17.7 points, 3.5 rebounds and 4.8 assists, shooting 42 percent from the field and 30 percent on 3-pointers. He’s in the final year of his contract ($23.5 million).

Olynyk is averaging 8.0 points, 5.1 rebounds and 4.3 assists, shooting 56 percent from the field and 43 percent on threes. He is also in the final year of his deal ($12.2 million).

New York (31-17) is sitting in second place in the Atlantic Division and third in the Eastern Conference entering Wednesday’s games.

Utah (24-25) is tied with the Los Angeles Lakers for ninth place in the West.

  1. I don’t see how Knicks could make this trade work. Fournier’s and Grime’s contract would not offset Olynyk and Clarkson. Would they throw Mitch Robinson into this trade?
