The Knicks escaped Detroit with their second road playoff win in two tries, taking a 3-1 series lead over the Pistons. The series now shifts back to New York.
But the 94-93 win didn’t come until Pistons wing Tim Hardaway Jr. missed a challenged baseline shot at the buzzer. Coach J.B. Bickerstaff immediately stormed the court — to no avail.
He said after the game he strongly believed that Hardaway was fouled. The man defending Hardaway, Knicks wing Josh Hart, admitted that perhaps Bickerstaff was correct. At least, Hart didn’t deny it.
“Did I make contact with him? Yeah, I made contact with him,” Hart told reporters, via Fred Katz of The Athletic. “Was it legal? I don’t know. We’ll see in the last two-minute report.”
Yeah, guess so. That’s a real shame for the Pistons, given that going to New York with the series tied at 2-all is a lot different than going down 3-1. That’s just simple math.
On the bright side for the Pistons, all of these games have been remarkably close and they did manage to steal one at Madison Square Garden. Now, they’ll have to take two, and three straight overall.
