Knicks’ OG Anunoby considered day-to-day with hamstring strain

The Knicks may have avoided the worst, but they are not in the clear.

Forward OG Anunoby has been diagnosed with a right hamstring strain and is considered day-to-day, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania. He is listed as questionable for Game 3 in Philadelphia.

Anunoby suffered the injury late in Wednesday’s Game 2 win. He appeared to tweak the hamstring on a missed dunk, landed awkwardly, then grabbed the back of his right leg. Moments later, he signaled to the bench and exited.

The initial diagnosis is encouraging. More serious hamstring strains can sideline players for weeks. This one does not appear to fall in that category. Still, even mild strains tend to linger and can worsen if rushed.

That leaves the Knicks in a balancing act.

Anunoby has been a major piece, averaging a team-high 35.3 minutes in the postseason while taking on tough defensive assignments and contributing offensively. If he cannot go, coach Mike Brown will need to adjust on the fly.

Miles McBride could see a larger role after being part of the closing lineup in Game 2. Josh Hart and Mikal Bridges would likely absorb more minutes on the wing, with Landry Shamet, Jordan Clarkson and Jose Alvarado also in the mix.

New York leads the series 2-0 as it shifts to Philadelphia. The margin is solid, but not safe. The Sixers already showed in the first round they are capable of climbing out of a hole.
