LeBron James’ decision continues to hold up NBA futures market

LeBron James‘ prolonged free agency isn’t just affecting NBA teams. According to Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson, it’s also leaving sportsbooks hesitant to adjust championship odds while the four-time MVP weighs his next move.

Robinson wrote that bookmakers are waiting for an actual transaction rather than reacting to speculation surrounding James’ future.

Sources close to the process also told Robinson that no one outside of James and his family truly knows when a decision will come.

“Nobody knows what anything is gonna be unless it’s him and his family,” a source told Robinson. “Nobody knows — GMs, presidents, analysts.”

During an appearance at Fanatics Fest, James reiterated that his next destination will be about more than basketball.

“I want to compete at a high level,” James said. “I want to join a franchise that shares the same model as myself… It’s not just about the team. There’s so many other factors that I’m factoring in right now on what best fits me as a player, what best fits me as a person and what best fits my happiness, and also my family as well.”

Robinson reported that the Cavaliers, 76ers and Heat remain among the teams generating the most buzz, while noting family considerations do indeed play a significant role in James’ thinking. He also wrote that sportsbooks are unlikely to make major adjustments until James officially commits to a team.
