Fanatics Fest emerges as possible stage for LeBron James decision

LeBron James still hasn’t revealed where he’ll play next season, but with Fanatics Fest set to begin later this week in New York, speculation is building that basketball’s biggest free-agent saga could finally reach its conclusion.

James is scheduled to appear multiple times during the event, including a live recording of Mind the Game with Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton on Thursday and The Shop on Friday.

While there’s no indication he plans to make an announcement there, the timing has only fueled more intrigue.

The Cavaliers, Heat, Warriors and 76ers continue to be linked most prominently to James, while ESPN’s Shams Charania said the decision appears to be drawing closer.

Marc Stein of The Stein Line has also reported Cleveland remains the “scenario to beat.”

Cavs coach Kenny Atkinson added to the intrigue over the weekend while appearing on SiriusXM NBA Radio.

“This is an exciting time for us,” Atkinson said. “We’re in the mix for the greatest player of all time.

“I know the state of Ohio, man. There’s something special there.”

Golden State continues to push as well, with Draymond Green recently admitting he spent several days recruiting James and Stephen Curry also believed to be involved in the effort.

Whether James announces his decision before Fanatics Fest or uses one of his appearances in New York to address his future remains to be seen.

But with most teams having made their recruiting pitches and league insiders suggesting the process is entering its final stage, it appears the wait may not last much longer.
