Malik Beasley agrees to plead guilty in federal gambling case

Malik Beasley has agreed to plead guilty to federal charges stemming from an illegal sports gambling investigation, according to Mike Vorkunov of The Athletic.

The former NBA guard is scheduled to enter his plea Dec. 9 in Brooklyn. He initially pleaded not guilty after being indicted in June.

The agreement follows reports that Beasley’s attorneys were negotiating with federal prosecutors over allegations that he manipulated his performance while playing for the Bucks during the 2023-24 season.

According to the indictment, the allegations involve player prop bets tied to four games against the Cavaliers, Hornets, Clippers and Nets.

It’s a significant development in a case that interrupted Beasley’s career just as he appeared headed for a substantial payday.

After his season in Milwaukee, Beasley joined the Pistons and averaged 16.3 points while appearing in all 82 games in 2024-25. He finished second in Sixth Man of the Year voting and was poised to return on a three-year, $42 million contract before Detroit learned of the investigation. Beasley did not play in the NBA last season.

Former NBA forward Ed Davis, who played alongside Beasley with the Timberwolves, was also indicted. Prosecutors allege that Davis helped lead the scheme and lent Beasley money to cover gambling debts. Davis has pleaded not guilty.

The latest report does not specify which charges will be covered by Beasley’s plea agreement or what sentence prosecutors may seek. Those details will be important as the case moves toward his December court appearance.
