NBA Dropping Vaccine Mandate For 2022-23 Season

Last season, refusal to get the COVID vaccine kept Nets star Kyrie Irving from playing games. Warriors small forward Andrew Wiggins said he got it — but hated getting it.NBA Logo

Others were against it as well.

But this year, no one has to worry about it — as the league will not have a vaccine mandate in place for 2022-23, per Vincent Goodwill of Yahoo Sports.

While the league is no longer requiring players to be vaccinated, it will still “strongly suggest all personnel be up to date with vaccinations,” Goodwill wrote, adding that occasional testing of unvaccinated players may still be a thing.

Sources told The Athletic in January that bout 90 percent of NBA players received at least one dose of vaccination. Considerably fewer followed up with booster shots, sources have told Hoops Wire.

Wizards star Bradley Beal was among those who did not want to receive the vaccine at the start of last season, and Magic forward Jonathan Isaac said he has not been vaccinated and does not intend to do so.
