NBA Free Agency Update: Biggest names still waiting to sign

NBA free agency has slowed considerably over the past couple of days. That doesn’t mean the biggest dominoes have fallen.

In fact, several of the top remaining free agents appear to be waiting on one player before making their own decisions. Luke Adams of Hoops Rumors recently took a look at the market, and here’s where things stand.

LeBron James: Everything still starts here. James is no longer returning to the Lakers, but he also hasn’t revealed where he’s headed next. The Cavaliers, Heat, 76ers, Warriors, Timberwolves and Nuggets continue to be mentioned most often, with Cleveland widely viewed as the team to beat.

James Harden: Assuming he stays in Cleveland, it’s more a matter of when than if. Multiple reports have indicated Harden and the Cavs have already discussed the framework of a new multiyear contract. The belief around the league is that the timing could depend on what happens with James.

Draymond Green: Green’s situation is similar. Most expect him to remain with the Warriors, but his next contract could look different depending on whether Golden State lands James. Like Harden, Green may simply be waiting for the biggest free-agent decision of the summer.

Jonathan Kuminga: The Lakers continue to pursue Kuminga, though creating enough financial flexibility remains a challenge. The Cavs, Kings and Bucks have also been linked to the 23-year-old forward, while a return to Atlanta hasn’t been ruled out.

DeMar DeRozan: Officially a free agent after clearing waivers, DeRozan could become the next veteran to come off the board. Several contenders are expected to have interest, though many around the league view him as a fallback option for teams that miss out on James.

The market has been unusually quiet lately. That could change in a hurry once LeBron makes his decision.
