NBA Moves: Mavericks, Jett Howard, Pacers, Taelon Peter, Cedi Osman

Mavericks

The Mavericks are betting there’s still some untapped potential in Jett Howard.

Dallas signed the former Magic first-round pick to a two-way contract after opening a roster spot by waiving Tyler Smith.

Howard, 22, was selected No. 11 overall in the 2023 NBA Draft but never carved out a consistent role in Orlando. He averaged 5.5 points while shooting 37.2 percent from three last season, appearing in 55 games.

The son of former NBA standout and Michigan coach Juwan Howard, Howard now gets a chance to compete for a larger role with a Mavericks organization that has made a habit of looking for upside at the end of its roster.

Pacers

Indiana has waived second-year guard Taelon Peter, clearing one of its three two-way roster spots.

Peter, the No. 54 overall pick in last year’s draft, appeared in 38 games as a rookie, averaging 4.5 points in limited minutes. He also spent time with the Pacers’ G League affiliate and played well during Summer League in Las Vegas.

The move comes with Indiana expected to add Braden Smith on a two-way contract, while Ethan Thompson, Kobe Brown and restricted free agent Jalen Slawson also remain in the two-way picture.

International

Former Cavaliers forward Cedi Osman is staying in Europe.

According to Eurohoops, Osman has finalized a three-year contract with Greek club PAOK after Panathinaikos accepted a buyout.

Osman, 31, spent seven NBA seasons with the Cavs before later joining the Spurs. He has played the past two years with Panathinaikos, averaging 13.0 points while shooting 37.7 percent from three last season.
