With the NBA All-Star break right around the bend, the injury woes continue to mount for the Dallas Mavericks.
Center Daniel Gafford sustained a right knee sprain during Monday’s game against the Sacramento Kings and is expected to be re-evaluated in two weeks, according to the team’s PR department.
Gafford, who has started 28 of 51 games this season, was averaging 12.3 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 1.9 blocks in 21.9 minutes per game.
The Dallas Mavericks announced today that Mavericks center Daniel Gafford sustained a right knee sprain during the Feb. 10 game against the Sacramento Kings.

Dallas’ frontcourt has been hit hard in recent weeks, with Dereck Lively (right ankle stress fracture) potentially out for the remainder of the regular season. Dwight Powell, who has been sidelined since January 17 with a right hip strain, is also unavailable.
The injury list also includes newly acquired perennial All-Star Anthony Davis, who was injured in his Mavericks debut on Saturday. Davis is dealing with a left adductor strain and will be out for multiple weeks.
Adding to the uncertainty, forward P.J. Washington was listed as questionable for Dallas’ game against Golden State on Wednesday due to a right ankle sprain, per Grant Afseth of Dallas Hoops Journal.
With the frontcourt decimated, two-way player Kylor Kelley is the only true big man left on the roster. Forwards Kessler Edwards, Olivier-Maxence Prosper, and Naji Marshall have been forced into small-ball roles after Gafford’s exit on Monday.
The All-Star break provides the Mavericks some breathing room, but they’re expected to be in this injury-riddled situation for at least a few more weeks, putting further strain on their frontcourt depth.
