Celtics Agree To Deal With Torrey Craig; Still Have Open Roster Spot

The Boston Celtics have agreed to terms with forward Torrey Craig, per NBA insider Shams Charania of ESPN.Torrey Craig, NBA, Bulls, Celtics

Craig, an eight-year veteran, was waived by the Chicago Bulls earlier this week to create roster space for the players acquired in the trade that sent Zach LaVine to the Sacramento Kings.

With two open roster spots after trading Jaden Springer at the deadline, the Celtics were in a position to add a player without needing to make any additional moves.

Earlier on Thursday, Celtics president of basketball operations Brad Stevens stated that acquiring a wing player would be their primary focus in filling those spots, as reported by MassLive’s Brian Robb.

Boston has now addressed that need by signing Craig, a capable shooter who has shown consistent accuracy from beyond the arc.

In his first nine games with the Bulls this season, Craig made 42.9% of his three-point attempts. Over the last three NBA seasons, he has never shot below 39.2% from three-point range.

Beyond his shooting, Craig will provide valuable help on defense, particularly on the perimeter. His experience also gives the Celtics a reliable option in high-stakes games, as he has appeared in 75 postseason contests and started in 19 of them.

The Celtics are expected to maintain flexibility with their roster, keeping the 15th spot open for a potential addition later in the season. Craig’s signing solidifies Boston’s wing depth and provides them with a veteran presence as they push toward the postseason.
