Warriors
Warriors star Stephen Curry is taking a different approach this offseason.
After missing more than two months last season with a right knee injury, Curry said his biggest priority is making sure he’s healthy for Year 18.
“My knee is feeling great,” he said, via Monte Poole of NBC Sports Bay Area.
Curry said he’s playing more golf and less basketball this summer, opting for rest instead of his usual nonstop workouts.
“It’s just a more patient approach,” Curry said. “Quality over quantity.”
At 38, Curry knows the challenge isn’t just getting ready for opening night. It’s making sure there’s enough left in the tank for another long season.
Nuggets
DaRon Holmes II knows all about patience.
The Nuggets big man suffered a torn Achilles tendon in his Las Vegas Summer League debut two years ago, but he’s now healthy and focused on carving out a larger role in Denver’s rotation.
According to Vinny Benedetto of The Denver Gazette, Holmes wasn’t on the Summer League roster this year but stayed involved by helping prepare the team during practices.
“I feel great out there,” Holmes said. “I feel like I’m learning new things about my game.”
Holmes admitted there were moments when he wondered if he’d ever be the same player after such a serious injury. Now, he says he’s learned to rely on more than just athleticism as he continues working his way back.
Heat
Davion Mitchell isn’t waiting until training camp to build chemistry with Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Mitchell told Anthony Chiang of The Miami Herald that he’ll travel to Greece later this month to work out with his new Heat teammate after attending an NBPA event in Spain.
“Immediately after I found out [about the trade], I got his number and I texted him,” Mitchell said.
Mitchell added that he’s spent much of the offseason improving his catch-and-shoot jumper while also shedding weight in hopes of becoming even more effective on the defensive end.
For a team with championship aspirations, getting a head start probably isn’t a bad idea.
