Bradley Beal remains open to the idea of waiving his no-trade clause for the right destination, but so far, the Phoenix Suns have yet to approach the star guard about a potential move, according to NBA insider Fred Katz of The Athletic.
Beal has made it clear that he won’t seek an exit from Phoenix unless the team asks him to waive his no-trade clause, Katz noted.
Unlike two seasons ago, when Beal didn’t approach the Washington Wizards about a trade request at the behest of the team’s new front office, he is now willing to consider options if the Suns initiate the conversation.
A source told Katz that Beal’s primary focus, if he were to be traded, would be to find a situation where winning is a priority.
Despite having $160 million remaining on his contract over the next two seasons, Beal is intent on joining a contender, which was part of his rationale when he initially selected the Suns as a preferred destination during trade talks in 2023.
At the time, the Suns, Miami Heat, Golden State Warriors, and Sacramento Kings were on Beal’s list of acceptable destinations.
However, with the Suns currently struggling to find their stride this season, the situation has changed. Beal has expressed a willingness to explore other options, but only if Phoenix formally requests it.
As for the Suns, they’ve been actively engaging in trade talks not just involving Beal, but also center Jusuf Nurkic, who has seen his role diminish recently with the team moving him to the bench.
The Suns are clearly assessing their roster and looking for potential moves to improve their NBA championship chances. But for now, Beal’s future in Phoenix hinges on whether the team will pull the trigger on a deal or leave him in place as part of the team’s ongoing evolution.
