Warriors
The Warriors may not be all-in on chasing the biggest names available this offseason, but that doesn’t mean they’re sitting still.
According to ESPN’s Anthony Slater, Pelicans wing Trey Murphy III remains a player Golden State has long admired. The Warriors have reportedly viewed Murphy as an ideal fit for Steve Kerr‘s system, thanks to his ability to defend multiple positions, knock down outside shots and play without dominating the ball.
Murphy, 25, would also help Golden State accomplish another goal — getting younger while still trying to compete around Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and Jimmy Butler.
The Pelicans have historically placed a hefty price tag on Murphy, but league sources told ESPN that New Orleans has shown interest in moving into the lottery. The Warriors hold the No. 11 pick in next week’s draft.
Meanwhile, Slater reported that Golden State remains reluctant to sacrifice its future for short-term upgrades. While the Warriors have been linked to names such as Giannis Antetokounmpo and Kawhi Leonard, they appear to be taking a more measured approach than in previous years.
Hawks
The Hawks remain hopeful about bringing back veteran guard CJ McCollum.
According to Jake Fischer of The Stein Line, Atlanta continues to like its chances of re-signing McCollum in free agency. Michael Scotto of HoopsHype added that rival executives project a new deal could land somewhere around $20 million annually.
Even if McCollum returns, Atlanta doesn’t appear finished.
Fischer reported that the Hawks would still like to add another downhill playmaker in the backcourt and could also seek help in the frontcourt alongside Onyeka Okongwu.
Hoops Wire sources expect Atlanta to address at least one of those needs with the No. 8 overall pick in next week’s draft.
Celtics
The Celtics have no shortage of options this offseason.
According to Spotrac’s Keith Smith, Boston could choose to largely run back the current roster, swing for a blockbuster trade, or focus on improving around the margins.
The latter may be the most realistic route.
If that’s the case, Smith suggested names such as Anfernee Simons, Quentin Grimes and John Collins could emerge as potential targets.
