Pistons likely to keep Jalen Duren; questions remain on Tobias Harris, others

The Pistons and Jalen Duren may not be on the same page financially just yet.

That doesn’t mean anyone around the NBA expects the two sides to part ways.

According to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, rival executives continue to believe Duren will ultimately remain in Detroit despite a gap in contract negotiations.

The 22-year-old center is reportedly seeking a deal worth about $40 million annually after earning All-NBA Third Team honors and finishing second in Most Improved Player voting. League executives, however, project his next contract to land somewhere in the mid-$30 million range.

The Pistons have consistently expressed a desire to keep Duren, and star guard Cade Cunningham is also hopeful the two sides can reach an agreement, Scotto reported.

There’s more to Detroit’s offseason than Duren, though.

Veteran forward Tobias Harris remains a priority in free agency, even if a new contract has yet to be finalized. Harris is expected to draw interest from multiple teams should he reach the open market.

Meanwhile, guard Marcus Sasser is believed to be available in trade discussions after seeing his role decline last season. The former first-round pick is entering the final year of his rookie contract and would become a restricted free agent next summer if he isn’t extended beforehand.
