Raptors’ Brandon Ingram undergoes heel surgery, expected back for camp

The Raptors are expecting Brandon Ingram back on time. They just needed to fix the issue first.

Ingram underwent surgery to address lingering pain in his right heel, with a heel spur removed during the procedure. The team said he is expected to make a full recovery and be ready for the start of training camp.

The injury had been building.

Ingram missed time late in the regular season with what was initially called heel inflammation. It carried into the playoffs, where it became more of a problem. He aggravated it during Toronto’s first-round series and ultimately sat out Games 6 and 7 against Cleveland.

That led to the decision to take a closer look and move forward with surgery.

It puts a clean end to what was otherwise a strong bounce-back season.

After appearing in just 18 games the year before, Ingram played 77 this season, all starts. He led the Raptors in scoring at 21.5 points per game while shooting efficiently across the board. He also added 5.6 rebounds and 3.7 assists.

Now the focus shifts to the offseason.

The expectation is that Ingram will need some rest and light rehab before ramping back up. But he should still have most of the summer to work, which matters for a team that wants him to continue expanding his game.

For Toronto, the goal is simple. Get him healthy. Keep him on the floor. Build from there.
