As the NBA trade deadline draws near, three Toronto Raptors veterans are frequently mentioned in discussions: Bruce Brown, Kelly Olynyk, and Chris Boucher, per Jake Fischer of The Stein Line.
Each player could factor into various trade scenarios as teams look to bolster their rosters ahead of the postseason.
Brown, in particular, is one of the most talked-about players. His $23 million salary has made him a focal point of trade rumors, with sources indicating that the Raptors are motivated to move him.
The Raptors see trading Brown as a way to further strengthen the return on their Pascal Siakam deal with the Indiana Pacers on January 17, 2024. Brown was the primary salary component coming back to Toronto in that trade, which also included three future first-round picks.
A strong performer for the Denver Nuggets during their 2023 NBA championship run, Brown had a significant role in their success.
Last summer, roughly a dozen teams were reportedly interested in offering him the full mid-level exception (MLE) in free agency. However, his market has cooled somewhat since then, with rival executives waiting to see him return to full health and peak performance.
Brown, 28, missed the first 31 games of the season with a right knee injury but has since appeared in Toronto’s last nine games. That said, his production has been fairly modest.
Basically, as NBA trade discussions intensify, expect the Raptors to be active in exploring potential moves that could reshape their roster ahead of the deadline.
