We can assume that Trail Blazers star Damian Lillard will eventually be traded. Whether it’s to his desired destination of Miami … well, that appears to be a little less certain.
But the Raptors? They appear to be extremely interested, per Marc Stein of The Stein Line.
In fact, as Stein wrote, the Raptors “have convinced numerous teams around the league that their interest in trading for Lillard is genuine.”
In other words, Toronto likely isn’t getting involved in talks just to act as a facilitator to send Lillard to the Heat. They would like Lillard for themselves.
That said, Stein is quick to add what has already been reported, ad nauseam. And that’s the idea that Lillard doesn’t want to play for anyone but the Heat. We even already relayed that should another team trade for him, Lillard will just ask THEM to send him to South Beach.
Stein wrote something similar when it comes to the Raptors.
“Do the Raptors really want to trade for the expensive Lillard, at age 33, if he doesn’t want to play for them?” Stein asked.
With a week to go before Media Day, it seems we will find out soon enough.
