Rockets To Pick Up Option On Jae’Sean Tate

The Rockets intend to pick up the $1.8 million contract option on small forward Jae’Sean Tate, per Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle.Jae'Sean Tate

Tate, 26, is 6-foot-4 and has spent both of his NBA seasons in Houston, becoming a major part of the Rockets’ rebuild. He averaged 11.8 rebounds and 5.4 rebounds in starting all but one of 78 appearances last season.

Along with that, Tate is considered the Rockets’ best wing defender. A product of Pinkerington Central High School, he went undrafted out of Ohio State.

The Rockets will have the option to make Tate a restricted free agent next summer, as the upcoming season marks the final year of a three-year deal he signed in 2020.

Houston selected Auburn power forward Jabari Smith Jr. with the No. 3 overall pick in the NBA Draft, then snagged LSU forward Tari Eason at No. 17 and point guard TyTy Washington at No. 26 (via the Mavericks).
