Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell reportedly didn’t always see eye-to-eye as teammates with the Jazz. But those days are long gone, as Gobert was traded to the Timberwolves and Mitchell to the Cavaliers.
Gobert was first dealt this offseason, a blockbuster that sent him to the Timberwolves in exchange for landing Patrick Beverley, Malik Beasley, rookie Walker Kessler, Jarred Vanderbilt, Leandro Bolmaro and multiple first-round picks. (Beverley has since been dealt to the Lakers for Talen Horton-Tucker and Stanley Johnson.)
But you can make the case that the Mitchell deal was even bigger, as he makes his way to a Cavs team that is already pretty promising with the likes of All-Stars Darius Garland and Jarrett Allen, as well as All-Rookie member Evan Mobley.
Gobert, for one, envisions it going well.
“I think he has a bright future,” Gobert said of Mitchell, via Antonis Stroggylakis of EuroHoops. “He’s one of the best young players in his position. He’s going to keep getting better. I think it’s a great opportunity for him to just get to a new system, a new team and be able to show what he can do.”
In return for Mitchell, the Jazz received Collin Sexton, Lauri Markkanen, rookie Ochai Agbaji and three first-round picks.
“That’s what (Jazz CEO) Danny Ainge decided to do,” Gobert told Stroggylakis . “Sometimes you always have to explore all different options. That’s what they did. Time will tell if it was good or not. I think he definitely did a great job in getting as many assets as possible.”
Both the Cavs and Jazz are set to begin training camp at the end of the month. As we relayed here, the Jazz appear to be looking to make even more moves, likely centered around older veterans such as Mike Conley, Bojan Bogdanovic and Jordan Clarkson.
