Sixers Signing Kai Jones To 10-Day Contract

The Philadelphia 76ers plan to sign free agent center Kai Jones to a 10-day contract, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.Kai Jones, Charlotte Hornets, NBA News

Jones’ deal will start Friday and run through March 25, at which point the Sixers will determine whether to sign him to another 10-day, a standard deal, or send him back into free agency.

Jones, 22, is 6-foot-11 and was waived by the Hornets back in October after he made a trade demand on social media.

“I have officially requested to be traded from the Charlotte Hornets,” Jones wrote on X/Twitter at the time. He then retweeted popular basketball Twitter aggregator NBA Central about his trade request.

Jones was selected by the Knicks with the No. 19 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft and was immediately traded to the Hornets. He played sparingly since, appearing in 46 games last season and averaging 3.4 points and 2.7 rebounds.

The Hornets announced on Sept. 30 that he would be away from the team indefinitely for personal reasons. His trade demand followed shortly thereafter.

Jones is a native of the Bahamas and stands 6-foot-11. He played college basketball at Texas.

Philadelphia is aiming to find some help up front with Joel Embiid still sidelined by a left knee injury. The Sixers (36-29) currently sit in sixth place in the Eastern Conference.
