Stephen Curry still headed toward Warrior-for-life status: ‘He isn’t going anywhere’

Stephen Curry has spent his entire NBA career with the Warriors. The expectation is that he will keep it that way.

“Steph is re-signing. Steph isn’t going anywhere. He never was,” longtime Warriors reporter Marcus Thompson told HoopsHype.

Thompson noted that Curry has said for years that he wants to play for one franchise throughout his career. At 38, there also isn’t an obvious destination that would offer him the same comfort, influence and organizational standing he has earned with Golden State.

It would likely take the Warriors telling Curry they no longer intend to compete for him to consider leaving, Thompson added. That does not appear to be happening.

“I feel like they include him in the process,” Thompson said. “He’s aware of what’s going on. His voice matters, and as long as that’s the case, Steph is fine.”

The harder question remains whether Golden State can construct one more legitimate run around Curry. The Warriors explored major additions this summer but were unable to land Giannis Antetokounmpo or LeBron James. Much now depends on how Jimmy Butler looks when he returns from a torn ACL.

This final stage was never going to be neat. Curry is still good enough to frighten a contender in the right playoff matchup. Finding enough help without stripping away the future is the challenge.

But the idea that Curry will solve the problem by leaving? Thompson isn’t buying it. Neither, apparently, is Curry.
