Suns Announce Signing Of Duane Washington Jr.

The Suns have officially signed guard Duane Washington Jr., the team announced in a press release.

Agent Shayaun Saee told Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN that Washington is receiving a two-way deal. That means he can appear in up to 50 NBA games, while spending the remainder of his time in the G League. He will be eligible for a standard deal if the Suns want to promote him to the regular roster for more than 50 games.

Washington was waived by the Pacers when the team extended an offer sheet to Deandre Ayton back on July 14. (The Suns eventually matched.)

Washington, 22, is 6-foot-3 and showed plenty of promise as a rookie after going undrafted out of Ohio State in 2021. He averaged 9.9 points in 48 games last season, shooting 41 percent from the field.

He spent most of last season on a two-way contract, before receiving a non-guaranteed multiyear standard deal. He was waived shortly before it became guaranteed. Theoretically, he will now add some depth to the Suns at point guard behind Chris Paul and Cameron Payne.
