Tacko Fall suffers hip injury while fighting for Sixers two-way spot

Tacko Fall has a legitimate opportunity to stick with the 76ers. Now he has an early training-camp obstacle to overcome.

Fall experienced hip soreness during Wednesday’s practice and was scheduled to be evaluated before Thursday’s session, according to Justin Grasso of The Sixer Sense. Coach Nick Nurse described the issue as a “hip thing,” though there was no immediate indication that the injury was considered serious.

The timing isn’t ideal for Fall, who entered camp competing for one of Philadelphia’s open two-way spots.

It looked like a pretty good situation for the 7-foot-6 center, too. The Sixers began camp thin up front, with Adem Bona unavailable and Joel Embiid and Ariel Hukporti representing the true centers on standard contracts.

Fall, 30, has bounced around since last appearing in the NBA with the Cavaliers in 2021-22. He’s since played overseas and in the G League while trying to work his way back.

Philadelphia gave him that opportunity with a training-camp deal. Given the Sixers’ situation at center, he has more than just a ceremonial chance of sticking around. First, though, he’ll need the hip to cooperate.
