Timberwolves Signing AJ Lawson to Two-Way Deal

The Timberwolves are signing shooting guard A.J. Lawson to a two-way contract, agents agents Jim Tanner and Elias Sbiet told Shams Charania of The Athletic/Stadium.AJ Lawson

Lawson, 22, is 6-foot-6 and went undrafted out of South Carolina in 2021. He spent most of last season with the College Park Skyhawks of the G League, making a brief stop with the Guelph Nighthawks of the Canadian Elite Basketball League.

After going undrafted, Lawson played for both the Hawks and Heat summer league teams, and then signed with the Hawks. However, he was cut before the season.

As Charania noted, Lawson has appeared in two games with the Skyhawks this season and is averaging 25 points. He is expected to join the Timberwolves for Wednesday’s game vs. the Magic.

Clearly, given his two-way status, Lawson is also likely to spend time with the Iowa Wolves, Minnesota’s G League affiliate. Two-way players can appear in up to 50 NBA games.
