Durant and Anthony Edwards have a close relationship. The two NBA stars were teammates on Team USA and helped the United States win the gold medal at the Paris Olympics.
One of the best scorers in NBA history, Durant is averaging 26.9 points, 6.1 rebounds and 4.2 assists this season while shooting 52.4% from the field, 39.8% from beyond the arc and 82.7% from the free-throw line. The two-time champion and two-time Finals MVP is making $51.2 million.
The Golden State Warriors, Miami Heat and Memphis Grizzlies also tried to trade for Durant. The Warriors had a deal to acquire Durant from the Suns. The Heat would have traded Jimmy Butler to Phoenix while getting Andrew Wiggins from Golden State.
However, Durant blocked the trade by making it known he didn’t want to return to the Warriors.
The Heat traded Butler to the Warriors for Wiggins.
Meanwhile, the Suns will continue with their “Big 3” of Durant, Devin Booker and Bradley Beal.
The Timberwolves made a blockbuster trade in the offseason, trading Karl-Anthony Towns to the New York Knicks for Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo. Minnesota is 28-23, good for seventh place in the Western Conference standings.
The Suns are only 25-25 despite having Durant, Booker and Beal. They are in 10th place in the West.
Durant has played for the Oklahoma City Thunder, Warriors, Brooklyn Nets and Suns. He has career averages of 27.2 points, 7.0 rebounds and 4.4 assists.
A four-time scoring champion, Durant is sixth in NBA history in points per game.
A Durant trade could happen in the offseason if the Suns don’t make the playoffs or fizzle out early in the postseason.
