Anthony Edwards After Wolves Dominate Lakers: ‘We’re Not Supposed to Be Here’

The Timberwolves weren’t supposed to win. But they didn’t just win — they took over.

Minnesota crushed the Lakers in Game 1 of their first-round series, 117-95, in front of a stunned L.A. crowd on Saturday night.

Jaden McDaniels scored 25. Naz Reid added 23 with six threes. Anthony Edwards nearly posted a triple-double: 22 points, 9 assists, 8 boards.

Luka Doncic dropped 37 in his Lakers playoff debut — 16 in the first quarter alone — but it didn’t matter.

The Timberwolves were tougher. Quicker. More prepared.

After the game, Edwards addressed the flood of pre-series predictions that had the Lakers advancing.

“The Lakers are supposed to win,” Edwards said. “That’s just how it’s supposed to go. We’re not supposed to be here, so we’re just going to compete.”

Minnesota did more than compete — they outscored L.A. by 15 in the second half and controlled the tempo the whole way.

“It’s not to say our guys weren’t ready to withstand a playoff-level basketball game. … I’m not sure physically we were ready,” Lakers coach JJ Redick said, via Dave McMenamin of ESPN. “And really when [the Wolves] started playing with a lot of thrust and physicality, we just didn’t respond to meet that.”

McDaniels was electric. Reid was fearless. Edwards was steady — and clutch.

Game 2 is set for Monday night.

The Lakers were favored. The Wolves weren’t. So Edwards is right about that much.

But now? Everyone’s watching to see what the Timberwolves do next.
