Warriors GM hints roster nearly set amid LeBron James pursuit

Like many others, the Warriors continue to wait on LeBron James.

And as they do, general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. suggested Golden State’s offseason may be entering its final stages.

“I think we’re getting close to finalizing the roster,” Dunleavy told reporters Tuesday.

Whether that includes James, of course, remains the biggest question.

The Warriors have been among the teams most heavily linked to the four-time MVP since he informed the Lakers he wouldn’t be returning for a 24th NBA season.

Stephen Curry and Draymond Green have both been actively involved in recruiting James, according to multiple reports. League sources have also continued to tell Hoops Wire that Golden State remains firmly in the mix, though the Cavaliers are still widely viewed as the frontrunner.

ESPN’s Anthony Slater recently reported that Warriors players have been able to communicate directly with James throughout the process, though he added the organization’s front office remains cautious about its chances.

No matter, it’s pretty clear that Dunleavy isn’t tipping his hand.

His comments could simply reflect that Golden State expects to wrap up the remainder of its offseason soon. Or they could signal the Warriors believe James’ long-awaited decision is drawing near.

James has also been linked to the Cavs, Heat, 76ers and Timberwolves. He is scheduled to appear at Fanatics Fest in New York later this week, with many around the league expecting a decision before the weekend.
