For Warriors shooting star Klay Thompson, it’s been a major struggle.
Thompson is playing in his first Finals since suffering a torn ACL and ruptured Achilles, and his shooting percentage is … well, lacking. And that’s the nice version.
How bad has it been for Thompson through the first two games? So bad that he is 10-of-33 shooting overall and a miserable 4-of-15 on 3-pointers. Unlike running-mate Stephen Curry, Thompson has been less-than-splashy.
“Thanks for reminding me of my delightful shooting percentage,” Thompson said, via Anthony Slater of The Athletic, before offering a solution.
“This is nothing I’m immune to. I’ve been through shooting slumps before. The best part is, it’s how you respond. Come Game 3, I’ll probably not do much differently rather than just play with great pace and pump great shots. When I tend to do that, I tend to have a big night.”
Warriors coach Steve Kerr said that Thompson may have been “pressing” a little bit in Game 2, and believes he will come around and get out of his “mini-slump or whatever you want to call it.”
Whatever it is, forward Jaylen Brown added the Celtics will need to be even better against Thompson, because to this point, their defense has little to do with his struggles.
“He’s just missing shots,” Brown said. “That player, he can get it going at any moment. We’re aware of that. We trying to prepare ourselves to make sure that doesn’t happen. But we’ve got to do a better job, to be honest. Not doing a good enough job on Klay Thompson.”
Game 3 is scheduled for Wednesday at 9 p.m. EST as the series shift to Boston. The series is currently tied at 1-all.
