Giannis Antetokounmpo is sidelined again, that much you know. What we don’t know is when he might return.
The Bucks confirmed Monday that Antetokounmpo is dealing with a calf strain, an injury that could sideline him for weeks. Coach Doc Rivers made it clear there is no timetable.
“There’s really no timetable,” Rivers told reporters.
Antetokounmpo had already hinted that the injury could cost him four to six weeks. He felt it flare up during Milwaukee’s loss to Denver, saying he lacked his usual explosiveness and was essentially playing on one leg.
“I felt like I couldn’t explode,” Antetokounmpo said. “I could jog. I couldn’t get on my toes.”
This is not new territory. Antetokounmpo missed eight games earlier this season with a calf issue and dealt with similar problems that sidelined him during the 2024 playoffs and the 2025 All-Star Game.
Despite the recurring concerns, Rivers said the team has not discussed shutting Antetokounmpo down for the season.
“There’s no thought to that,” he said.
Milwaukee’s timing could not be worse. The Bucks have lost five of six, sit 18-26, and are clinging to postseason relevance. They are 15-15 when Giannis plays and just 3-11 without him.
Antetokounmpo finished the Denver game with 22 points, 13 rebounds, and seven assists, playing through clear discomfort. Bobby Portis praised his toughness afterward, calling it a reflection of his character.
Antetokounmpo is averaging 28 points, 10 rebounds, and 5.6 assists this season. The Bucks now have to figure out how to stay afloat without him.
