The Miami Heat know it. Pat Riley said it. Now comes the part where they have to actually fix it.
Riley didn’t dance around much during his end-of-season address. The message was pretty simple. The Heat aren’t good enough, and changes are coming.
“I know we need to make some changes roster-wise,” Riley said, via Barry Jackson and Anthony Chiang of the Miami Herald. “We’re not good enough.”

That doesn’t mean a teardown. In fact, Riley made it clear that’s not happening.
“I’m not going to tank,” he said. “I will quit if I get ordered to go down that road.”
So what does that leave? Aggression. Calculated, but real.
Riley said the Heat will be “aggressive as hell” in trying to improve the roster, pointing to flexibility, trade exceptions, and the ability to pursue upgrades across the board. He also stressed the need for more size and overall length, while acknowledging the obvious — top-end scoring still matters in today’s league.
“You need top-end bucket-getting talent,” Riley said.
One thing that’s not changing? Bam Adebayo.
Riley shut that door quickly, calling Adebayo untouchable and someone the franchise intends to build around moving forward. He even admitted the All-Star big man deserves more help, noting frustration after another uneven season.
From there, it’s a lot of moving parts.
Tyler Herro’s extension isn’t a lock, with Riley emphasizing discipline. Norman Powell and Andrew Wiggins could return. Internal development still matters, even if outside help is coming.
But the headline is this: Miami isn’t standing still.
Riley has seen enough over the past few seasons. The Heat plan to push forward, not pull back. And this summer, they’re expected to go looking for answers.
