The NBA has instituted a rule for the 2022-23 season designed to limit prolonged standing by players and coaches on the bench, as relayed by Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.
The rule aims to eliminate crowding on the sideline.
A team that violates a rule will be handed a warning first, followed by a delay of game warning, followed by a technical foul.
Along with that, teams will be whistled for as unsportsmanlike tech for bench players who make a “distracting” move toward a play or enter the court of play, Winderman relayed.

Not a good idea! This feels like another attempt at “control” that will just cause more frustration and ridiculousness than its worth. So and so (Boogie Cousins of the world) will get techs, while (insert refs favorite) other guys won’t get “noticed”. More subjective garbage, and in this case beyond the boundaries of the court.
It wasn’t broken, what are we trying to fix? Did courtside seat customers whine that the players were in their way of the game? Who’s so privileged that NBA courtside seats aren’t good enough as is? To see that players up close is what you pay for!
Another gem from the fun police. Much in the way you’re not allowed to look at a guy when you dunk on him or get tech’d up. This is an overreach.
As far as the product, legs will be another level tighter, colder. Guys who feel like getting up, naturally, for their body and mind, now will hesitate and stay seated. This is unnatural and unhealthy for the game of basketball as I know it. This is going in the wrong direction.
