Lakers
Walker Kessler can’t wait to see what it will be like catching passes from Luka Doncic.
Speaking during his introductory press conference, the Lakers’ new center said he’s never played alongside a point guard quite like Doncic.
“He has such a big presence on the court,” Kessler said, via Sports Illustrated. “He makes every guy around him better… I’ve never played with a point guard of that kind of size and stature. It’ll be a lot of fun.”
Kessler said he hopes to help Doncic by setting solid screens, protecting the rim and making life easier on the defensive end.
He also offered an encouraging update on the shoulder injury that limited him to just five games last season.
“It feels better than it’s ever felt in my life,” Kessler said. “It’s been cleared. Feels strong. Feels mobile.”
Bucks
Gary Trent Jr.‘s new four-year, $64 million contract continues to generate debate around the NBA.
Tre Allen of Sports Illustrated questioned whether Milwaukee paid too much after Trent averaged just 8.1 points last season, comparing the deal to several other sizable Bucks contracts that didn’t pan out over the years.
The Bucks, however, may view the agreement as a reward for Trent accepting below-market contracts the past two seasons while allowing the club to preserve his Early Bird rights.
Cavaliers
Should the Cavaliers consider bringing Kevin Love back if LeBron James returns?
One Sports Illustrated writer doesn’t think so.
Steve Kubitza argued Cleveland should prioritize younger depth around James rather than another reunion with Love, who turns 38 in September and is currently a free agent.
Love remains one of the most popular players in franchise history after helping the Cavaliers win the 2016 championship, but any potential return likely depends on whether James ultimately decides to come back to Cleveland.
