Former Suns head coach Earl Watson has decided to join Nick Nurse and the Raptors as an assistant, per Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports.
Watson, 42, had been pursued by multiple teams for an assistant’s role before deciding on Toronto, Haynes reported.
Watson’s coaching career began as an assistant with the Austin Spurs of the G League in 2014-15. He became an assistant with the Suns the season after that, before becoming interim coach in 2015-16.
He owns a 33-85 record in a little more than two seasons with Phoenix.
The Raptors finished 27-45 just two years after winning the championship. They spent all of this past season playing home games in Tampa, Fla.
