The Cleveland Charge are trading the No. 2 overall pick in the G League Draft to the Westchester Knicks, with the Charge moving down a spot, per NBA insider Jake Fischer.
Westchester now owns the Nos. 1 and 2 picks in the draft, scheduled for Saturday.
“Landry Shamet and Matt Ryan, players the Knicks are known to covet when they take their roster from 12 to 14, are both eligible for Saturday’s draft, sources say,” wrote Marc Stein of The Stein Line. “Westchester owns the top two picks; drafting Shamet enables the Knicks to supervise his shoulder rehab.”
Several reports suggest Westchester will indeed take Ryan at No. 1. Recent Knicks cuts T.J. Warren and Chuma Okeke are also expected to join Westchester.
Meanwhile, multiple players recently waived by the Cavs are expected to be members of the Charge roster. That list includes Pete Nance, Jacob Gilyard, Elijah Hughes, Zhaire Smith, Jules Bernard and undrafted rookie Darius Brown II.
Cavs two-way players Emoni Bates, JT Thor and Luke Travers will also spend time with the G League club.
- In other news, Zaire Wade, the son of NBA legend Dwyane Wade, is expected to enter the G League draft.
- Also, Lakers rookie Bronny James is expected to start spending time with the South Bay Lakers starting in early November, per Shams Charania and Dave McMenamin of ESPN.
- LeBron James on that very idea: “Just [looking forward to] seeing him continue to grow as a basketball player no matter if it’s here with us or if it’s down with the G League team and him continuing to get better and better and better. … We’re a reflection of South Bay; South Bay is a reflection of us.”
