Magic center Bol Bol will not return from foot surgery in time to play this season, president of basketball operations Jeff Weltman said in a statement.
Bol was acquired by the Magic from the Celtics ahead of the deadline in February, a month after undergoing the surgery on his foot. He was traded by the Nuggets to the Pistons before that, but that deal was rescinded. Then he was traded to the Celtics.
But he’s now with the Magic for the time being.
“Bol’s working very hard,” Weltman said. “He’s working diligently. He’s working every day. He continues to ramp up. He’s just doing individual work right now. We’re going to be careful with him as we are with everyone to make sure he doesn’t skip steps in his rehabilitation.”
Bol, 22, is 7-foot-2 and appeared in just 14 games with the Nuggets this season. He is the son of the late Manute Bol, a 7-foot-7 Dinka tribesman who played in the NBA and became a fan favorite in the late-1980s and 1990s.
