Clippers guard Ben Simmons will miss another week with a knee injury that’s already cost him five straight games, as relayed by coach Tyronn Lue.
Simmons was bought out by the Nets last month and then promptly signed with the Clippers. Since his arrival, Simmons has averaged 6.8 points, 5.2 rebounds, 5.0 assists, and 1.4 steals in five appearances, shooting 58.3% from the field.
But yet again, his availability is becoming a concern. The former No. 1 overall pick has missed five straight and six overall since joining Los Angeles.
The Clippers, currently 35-29, hold the No. 8 seed in the Western Conference, just 1.5 games behind the Golden State Warriors for the No. 6 seed. With LA vying for a playoff spot, the absence of Simmons for their upcoming three-game road trip could hinder their efforts.
Simmons’ injury woes are not new. During his time with the Nets, the Australian guard appeared in just 90 games over parts of three seasons, including only 15 games in the 2023-24 campaign.
The Clippers will face Simmons and the Nets one more time this season on March 28. If he plays, it will mark his first matchup against his former team since his departure.
Los Angeles beat the Kings 111-110 in overtime on game-winner from star forward Kawhi Leonard, whose only shot in the OT came at the final buzzer.
The Clippers now hit the road for games at New Orleans, Miami and Atlanta.
