The Kings have signed rookie guard Boogie Ellis, the team announced in a press release.
Ellis, undrafted out of USC, gave an impressive showing for the Kings in the NBA summer league — averaging 11.2 points on 51.3% shooting and a sizzling 54.5% on 3-pointers in five games.
One scout told Hoops Wire that he thought “for sure” Ellis should have been selected in the 2024 NBA Draft.
While details of his contract weren’t announced, it’s most likely an Exhibit 10 contract that could result in Ellis playing for the Stockton Kings of the G League.
Ellis is 6-foot-3 and began his career at Memphis before transferring to USC. He averaged 16.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists in 29 games with the Trojans this past season.
An Exhibit 10 contract is a non-guaranteed minimum-salary deal. It doesn’t count toward a team’s cap unless the player makes the final roster. It also can be converted to a two-way deal before the season begins or mean guaranteed money if a player is waived and then stays on the G League club for at least 60 days.
Along with the decision to sign Ellis, again, presumably to a camp deal, the Kings are bringing in several veterans for workouts — with the list reportedly to include Nassir Little, Jae Crowder and T.J. Warren.
