NBA, Heat won’t discipline Bam Adebayo after Tyler Herro altercation

The NBA has officially closed the book on last week’s altercation between Bam Adebayo and Tyler Herro.

According to Joe Vardon of The Athletic, the league will not fine or suspend Adebayo following the incident, in which the Heat center reportedly punched his former teammate during a confrontation inside a Las Vegas gym.

“After discussing with the players involved and the NBPA,” an NBA spokesperson told Vardon, “everyone would prefer to move on from this unfortunate circumstance, and no further action will be taken by the league.”

The Heat also have no plans to discipline Adebayo, according to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald.

The confrontation reportedly stemmed from social media comments Herro made following his offseason trade from Miami to Milwaukee.

As Ramona Shelburne of ESPN previously reported, Adebayo confronted Herro at the Resorts World Casino, with the exchange eventually turning physical after Adebayo took exception to Herro’s response. Shelburne reported that Herro was struck near the chin and had to be restrained from retaliating.

Earlier this week, Herro indicated he had no interest in continuing the public back-and-forth.

“I’m just trying to move past all of it,” Herro told ESPN. “I’m focused on Milwaukee and building something special.”

According to Vardon, neither the Bucks, Heat nor the National Basketball Players Association offered public comment on the incident.

While the NBA often disciplines players for on-court fights, there is little precedent for offseason altercations away from team activities. Previous cases involving Bobby Portis and Nikola Mirotic in Chicago, as well as Draymond Green and Jordan Poole in Golden State, were handled primarily by the teams involved.
