Around the NBA, the waiting is over.
Wednesday at 5 p.m. Eastern came and went, which means the league’s quiet but important contract guarantee deadline is now in the books. Any player on a standard non-guaranteed deal who remained on the roster through the deadline now has his salary locked in for the season.
The mechanics are straightforward. Teams that wanted flexibility had to act by Wednesday afternoon. If they didn’t, the money became guaranteed. Most clubs chose stability over savings.
Only a handful of moves were made earlier in the week — including Indiana waiving Tony Bradley and Toronto cutting Mo Bamba — but once Wednesday arrived, the waiver wire stayed quiet. (Bradley has since re-signed with the Pacers.)
As ESPN’s Bobby Marks noted, no player on a standard non-guaranteed contract was waived on deadline day.
The result is a finalized, team-by-team snapshot of players whose contracts are now guaranteed for the season, as compiled by Luke Adams of Hoops Rumors.
So without further ado, players whose contracts are now guaranteed:
Atlanta Hawks
Boston Celtics
Brooklyn Nets
Charlotte Hornets
Cleveland Cavaliers
Dallas Mavericks
Detroit Pistons
Golden State Warriors
Indiana Pacers
Miami Heat
Milwaukee Bucks
Minnesota Timberwolves
New York Knicks
Phoenix Suns
Sacramento Kings
San Antonio Spurs
- Bismack Biyombo
- Lindy Waters III
Washington Wizards
It doesn’t grab headlines like a trade or a signing, but this date always matters. For players, it’s security. For teams, it’s clarity. And now, the league moves forward with both.
